Hi, I'm Lily! I am an Interior Decorator Graduate from the Maritime Business College.
My love for transforming spaces into beautiful and functional areas is what got me into interior decorating. I have always been fascinated by how a well-designed space can influence a person's mood and behavior. As a child, I would often rearrange the furniture in my room and play around with different color schemes. As I grew older, I became more interested in the technical aspects of interior design, such as space planning, lighting, and materials. Studying at maritime business college made me be able to achieve this as a career.
I am excited to be joining NIS Interiors for my internship and I look forward to working with all of you on a variety of design projects!

Interior Design trends 2021 written for INSPIRE ME MAGAZINE
From earthy palettes to granny-style (yes, you read that right), natural materials, and pocket doors,
here are 10 interior decor trends you’ll see blooming in 2021.
here are 10 interior decor trends you’ll see blooming in 2021.
- Let’s start by talking colours. This year is all about the darker hues. Earthy palettes (rusts, warm greens, deep reds, browns, camels, bronze tones) and textures. Instead of “all-white” interiors, blush tones are now considered a neutral and will make their way into our home decor this year.
- When it comes to home interior trends for 2021, one trend is standing out: green kitchen cabinets! You will see them pop up everywhere and range from deep greens to sage and everything in between.
- With people now valuing their homes a lot more, it is not surprising that multi-purpose spaces is on the short list of trends for 2021. With many people working from home and no sign of going back to normal for a while, the way we use our homes has changed significantly. We’ve had to adapt and get creative, especially with our work spaces at home. This year, people will be finding ways to reimagine their homes and incorporate pieces that help restore balance and maximize the use of each space.
- Farmhouse? Scandinavian? Boho-chic?…“Granny-Style”, Grandmillennial”, or “Gran-Chic” is growing stronger by the day. From floral wallpaper to retro furniture, antique painting, and crocheted blankets, this style is popping up all over the place as we spend more time with family members and reminiscent of the past.
- Another lean towards nature is the return of plastered walls. Tiles have been used for centuries and will continue to be used but since the grout can become discoloured, and prone to mold, it is not considered as low-maintenance as we think. Polished plaster walls, on the other hand, requires no grout at all and do not create broken lines. Polished plaster is the best finish for rooms that would otherwise be tiled. Since it is lime-based, it is not as prone to cracking and is fully breathable. An ideal choice in moist conditions.
- Inspired by Global influence and earthy colour palettes, natural materials like wicker and rattan bring warmth and comfort to home decor, a 2021 must with furniture but also in home decor accessories like cushions and wall art.
- Living walls of plants, indoor trees, and plants are going to continue their ascent into home design. Not only are they beautiful, they bring vibrancy and colour to our homes, but they also freshen the air, filtering out pollutants and releasing oxygen.
- Barn doors will be replaced by pocket doors (with frosted glass inserts, painted or texturized with trim work) and the always loved and classic French doors.
- Matching furniture sets are becoming less popular. Instead, use different pieces with complementary colours, wood tones, or architectural design. Local shops are the place to find vintage and antique pieces.
- With the growing awareness of being environmentally-friendly in all aspects of our lives, choosing sustainable materials in textiles is a simple change in doing our parts to help the environment. Go natural!
