INSPIRE ME MAGAZINE - DECOR TRENDS 2021
From earthy palettes to granny-style (you read that right), here are 10 decor trends you’ll see blooming in 2021.
1. Let’s start by talking colours. This year is all about the darker hues. Earthy palettes (rusts, warm greens, camels, bronze tones) and textures. Instead of “all-white” interiors, blush tones are now considered a neutral and will make their way into our home. 2. You will see green kitchen cabinets pop up everywhere and range from deep greens to sage and everything in between. 3. With people valuing their homes a lot more, it’s not surprising that multi-purpose spaces is on the short list. We’ve had to adapt and get creative to reimagine our homes, restore balance and maximize the use of each space. 4. “Granny-Style”, Grandmillennial”, or “Gran-Chic” is growing stronger by the day. From floral wallpaper to retro furniture, antique painting, and crocheted blankets, this style is popping up everywhere as we spend more time with family and reminiscent of the past. 5. Another lean towards nature is the return of plastered walls. With grout discolouration and prone to mold, tile is not considered as low-maintenance as we think. Polished plaster walls requires no grout, is not as prone to cracking and is fully breathable. |
6. Inspired by Global influence and earthy colour palettes, natural materials like wicker and rattan bring warmth and comfort to home decor, a 2021 must with furniture and accessories.
7. Living walls, indoor trees, and plants continue their ascent into home design. Not only are they beautiful, they bring vibrancy and colour to our homes, they freshen the air, filter out pollutants and release oxygen.
8. Barn doors will be replaced by pocket doors (frosted glass, painted or texturized) and the always loved French doors.
9. Matching furniture sets are becoming less popular. Instead, use different pieces with complementary colours, wood tones, or architectural design. Local shops are the place to find vintage and antique pieces.
10. With the growing awareness of being environmentally-friendly in all aspects of our lives, choosing sustainable materials is a simple change in doing our parts to help the environment. Go natural!
